Brief Bio of Kai Yin Shen

Kai Yin Shen

A graduate of Shanghai Jiao-Tung University in 1937 in E.E.
A founding member of Chiao-Tung University Alumni Association in America
A member of Professional Engineer Society of Ontario, Canada
A family with wife, Liang-Chu; Daughters Jane and Donna; and a grand daughter Corinna Since 1946, reside in Canada

Work Career:

1940 -1944 an engineer in Central Radio Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of National Resources Commission of Chinese Gov't. 1944 -1945 sent by NBC. to Washington DC USA to expedite delivery of urgent materials from USA Government.

1946 -1951 transferred by NBC to Ottawa, Canada to perform purchasing duties on a 60 million dollar credit extended by Canadian Government.

1952 -1956 in New York, VP Hemisphere Corp. engaging in international trade. Stationed in Tokyo, Japan for 18 months. 1959 -1981 Joined Ministry of Transportation, Ontario, Canada. A pioneer in developing computer systems in Highway Engineering. Established a Computing Center and served as a Director, Computer Systems Branch, Ministry of Transportation. 1981 retired with achievement and good reputation at work.

Personal Trait:
Mr. Shen appreciates his education from JiaoTung University and has natural affections towards Alumni. He cares about friends and likes in pursuit of excellence in what he does. He feels proud to administrate WXCKBW Scholarship Fund on behalf CTUAFA which awards 10 scholarship each year at Shanghai JiaoTung. Mr. Tsin Van, 1941 Shanghai RA wrote a note to young Alumni in Canada in August 1998 which may reveal some trait of Mr. Shen. Part of that note quoted : One who stands out among us all and who happens to appear in all the pictures in mg file is our dear and revered "school elder" Mai Y. Shen. There is no doubt that Kai Y is a promoter, organizer and hard worker in our alumni; in short, he is the heart and soul of our Association. We are indeed fortunate to have such a schoolmate! He has always been there for those who needed help or advice. He has been a role model for Jiao Da graduates to emulate.
